Metallophagus Update + Potentional Blog Name Change

First off, I've uploaded the updated Metallophagus Pack. The carrot should now be considerably less prolific and creatures now have more ways to interact with the seeds. It's available from the same link as before and therefore can be found on the Downloads page or the initial Metallophagus release post. You can also get it here.

Right, now onto a slightly more pressing issue.

Some of you are probably wondering why this blog is named what it is. Well, the name itself is also the name of a particularly good song made by a Newgrounds user. This song, to be exact. Since I liked the song and the feel of it suited what my blog was about, I decided to name the blog after the song as a homage. "Hole" in this case is referring to "hidey-hole." I suppose the name could be interpreted to mean "My own little world," which is the feel I imagine the author of the aforementioned song was aiming for. I know that was what I was aiming for with the blog's title.

However, it's the name of the blog that leads into a big problem. "Hole" has a bunch of other meanings, one of which is very, VERY inappropriate as far as this blog and the Creatures Community in general. Unfortunately, I recently found that one of the major traffic sources to this blog seem to be reading "Hole" with this alternate meaning in mind - the second biggest, in fact (it's apparently responsible for 12-13 hits a day). So I decided to read the title using that meaning of "Hole"... and suddenly the name doesn't sound quite so family friendly.

So I'm seriously considering changing the blog's name to something else that doesn't carry such an...undesirable alternative meaning and therefore keeping the traffic that has no business being directed here off. Therein lies another problem: I'm somewhat attached to the name since it's intended meaning is really fitting.

What do you guys think? Do you think that enough people are going to take the title as innuendo to make changing the name worth it, or do you think it's a non-issue? I suppose I could just be worrying too much, but the fact that this inappropriate site is the second largest source of traffic here is really, really bothering me.

  1. Since it is really bothering you, then it probably would be a good idea to change the name. My suggestion for a possible alternate name would be My Little Realm. It keeps the meaning that you originally had in mind, & isn't as inappropriate as the other meaning.

  2. Well at present it's not really doing any damage. If it were me I would just find it amusing and forget about it, especially if you're attached to the name.
However if it's bothering you as much as it seems to be then I would change it.

If you're planning to change the name don't just try and reword what you already have. Be prepared to come up with something completely new. Perhaps relate the blog name back to Grendelman somehow?

  3. I'm not sure it's inappropriate sounding enough to warrant a change, as the intended meaning is in no way inappropriate and it's a bit of a shame to change it because of that. But if it is bothering you, especially from the hits you are receiving, it may be best to change it to avoid any concerns.

Perhaps you could change the name to something similar, that doesn't have such a connotation? Maybe "My Little Hideout" or "My Little Hideaway".

  4. Oh... I didn't even think about it like that until you mentioned it. Heh.
Personally, I'm of the opinion that you shouldn't have to change your name just because some people can't keep their heads out of the gutter. But like others are saying, if it's bothering you, it'd be best for your peace of mind to change it.

On the other hand though... hey, extra hits. I know that's not the best way to look at it, but you never know when one of those... off-putting searches might introduce someone to a much more family-friendly hobby than... whatever they were currently looking for. Okay, maybe that's a stretch.

  5. I have to admit, it took me a while to get past the implications of the name. Now I don't even notice it. I wouldn't bother changing it unless those search people become problems; leaving comments etc.

  6. The new carrots are wonderful! I can finally pick them up and get them out of an area if I need to. Plus they dont't spread quite as far.

  7. They're still spreading too fast for me to get them out of the hub (even with kill hots as opposed to picking them up), but the carrots look nice so I guess I don't mind too much.
